Siting and power availability for businesses

Power that's ready when you are

At SRP, we specialize in making sure customers with significant load demands have access to affordable, reliable power that's ready when they need it.

In addition to helping you estimate your annual power costs, SRP shows you the energy infrastructure that's available near your top potential sites.

As a general rule, power availability is as follows:

  • If maximum demand will be between 0 and 5.8 megawatts (MW), or 6.7 megavolt amperes (MVA), SRP can serve most sites in the urban area from our existing distribution system if sufficient time is allowed for design and construction of any required system work.
  • If maximum demand is greater than 5.8 MW (6.8 MVA) but less than 10 MW (11.8 MVA), SRP can serve these sites from our distribution system. However, service requires a dedicated circuit and possibly a second dedicated circuit if backup is requested.
  • If maximum demand exceeds 10 MW (11.8 MVA), a customer will be required to have a dedicated substation, provide at least 1.5-acre footprint and plan on lead time for construction. For loads approaching 20 MW, additional transmission analysis may be required to determine the impact on the transmission system. In general, the best locations for loads exceeding 10 MW are those closest to 69-kilovolt lines.

These statements apply to most loads; however, each site is different and it is best to contact an SRP economic development advisor once you have selected a site or two.
